Haven’t started on your spring cleaning yet? That’s okay, neither have we! As a result, Penguin Pick-Up has come up with some great tips and tricks to take the energy and cleanliness of your space to a whole new level.
Organize Your Closet(s)
This can be a great way to start! Get rid of unused clothing and accessories, and organize the rest perhaps by type of clothing, colour, etc. You may even choose to donate the clothing and accessories at your local Salvation Army, Value Village or retailer that has a donation drop-box. For additional space, you can also put your winter items in a closet/storage space that is rarely used.
Remove Stains and Odors
Second to an organized closet, do something about your carpets and upholstery! Your fabrics have absorbed a winter’s worth of dirt, body oil, and germs. For the upcoming year of natural wear and tear, clean the rugs and cushions. You can rent a carpet cleaner, and make it a DIY project. It definitely won’t be fun, but it’ll be worth it!
Wash Walls, Cabinets, and Baseboards
You may be inclined to do this in order to remove some stains from these areas as well. We know that if you have young children, their mess can end up anywhere – including the baseboards! Most of the dust in your home falls to the floor, but there is some that clings to the vertical surfaces (also known as walls!). To wipe down the baseboards and walls use a soft, clean, wet cloth. If for any reason you cannot do this for the entire living space, make an effort to do it in your bathrooms. The steam from the shower can do a number on your walls and baseboards!
Clean the Ceiling Fixtures and Light Fixtures
You may use the vacuum with a soft nozzle attachment as well as a wet cloth remove the dust and dirt from above. Also important are the air conditioner vents! Spend some time cleaning your light fixtures. For this you can even use an all-purpose cleaner. For hard to reach areas, pick up any extended reach dirt removal tools. Evidently, this step in your spring cleaning is pretty straightforward!
Create a Different Mood
We mentioned earlier about changing the energy in your space. A lot has to do with mixing things up. Bedding, towels and linens can all be switched seasonally to create a different mood. This is great as according to the season, you can change the colour scheme in your home.
The so-called feng shui “trinity” that is deeply connected to your health has a lot to do with your bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. Balancing the energy of the home has a lot to do with getting rid of clutter, having good quality air and having good quality light. So we’re not implying that you need to rearrange your whole house, but if it means you have to clean a little to achieve this augmented energy, then do so, because it’s spring!
We also acknowledge that once you’re done spring cleaning you deserve a nice treat. And what is nicer than sitting outside enjoying an ice cream, a drink or a bonfire? We know that SHOP offers a Backyard Oasis catalogue for BBQ’s, gardening, patio furniture and more in order for you to celebrate the end of spring cleaning. We also know Lowe’s is a great place to seek out BBQ’s. At the end of it all, you can purchase your patio furniture online and then ship it over to us at Penguin Pick-Up. We’d be happy to help!
